Welcome!,

Although every Fantasy & Rotisserie league carries its own specific value system, we have tried to apply the most universal Fantasy & Rotisserie terms & values to predict future player worth. Do not be overly concerned if one or some of your value guidelines are not directly specified in our model. Our two models capture most of the vital statistics involved in fantasy & rotisserie play. Here are the 2 basic models that most leagues follow:

  • Fantasy Point League Model - This is a league where your player stats are given distinct point values that are accumulated throughout the year, then the individual with the most cumulative points wins.

  • Rotisserie (Roto) Style League Model - This is a league where your player stats are combined and compared verses other team owners and point values are given according to a ranking system.

The only real difference to you as team owner is to understand that in most Rotisserie type leagues, each point category is equally weighed. In other words homeruns are worth the same as stolen bases. In the Generic Fantasy Point model, each category has a different value & weight. If your not sure which projections model to use, ask your commissioner, if not you will find most of the player values between the two databases are pretty close.

As anyone will tell you, projections are an art rather than a science, and no system will 100% accurately predict an unknown future event or groups of events. However past performance is a relatively good predictor of future player performance. At Fantistics we have devised a model that utilizes 50 years of player statistics, which remarkably has produced amazing accuracy in predicting future player performance. This model evolved from months of backtesting and considers such factors as 3 year performance (not average, but trend & moving average analysis), player age, team strength, durability, and contract year status.

You will notice in our database a column for FP (fantasy points). This is just a measure of player value in relative terms to other players. In developing a $ value system for each player we also had to consider the fielding position for that player. In fantasy style baseball, an average fantasy team consists of 14 batters and 9 pitchers ($260 spending w/ a 12 team NL & AL league, with a recommended 65% spent on batters & 35% spent on pitchers), position players such as shortstops & catchers typically produce much fewer fantasy points than other position players. Since these positions are just as valuable for the fantasy owner, players that produce in excess of the average for that position are more valuable. For example in 1999, catchers under-produced (fantasy point land) by over 30% verses other position players. Thus a player like Mike Piazza (catcher, NY Mets) is more valuable, than if he were lets say a first baseman. Thus Mike Piazza's Fantasy Value will be adjusted accordingly.

In conclusion, we are quite confident that our projections are statistically relevant, and based on player regression and forecasting analysis, you as a team owner will be justly rewarded!

We look forward to serving you and hope you enjoy the 2000 Baseball season!

Sincerely,

The Fantistics Staff
